I am Because You Are
Year of Ubuntu seeks to give people around the world a space for conversation & ignite action towards a deeper understanding of who we are as a humanity. Inspired by some vibrant African voices, this growing community explores how Ubuntu can serve as a tool for reconciliation & global collaboration.
Ubuntu refers to humanity. Ubuntu says I am human only because you are human. If I undermine your humanity, I dehumanise myself. I AM BECAUSE YOU ARE.
Ubuntu is a Zulu word from South Africa and is a philosophy and embodied practice shared by various tribes/languages in Southern Africa. The concept originated in Africa and speaks to a deep care for the self, others and the natural environment.
